January 17th, 2001 ~ Day 3
A Winter Watercolor Workshop with Monte Guynes
On Wednesday We Worked on
Monte's
Illustration Board Technique
This
is a technique which has been developed over a period of time
by
Monte and has become somewhat of a trademark style for him.
It is quite different from painting on watercolor paper.
Not only is the approach different, but as you can see here,
so is the look.

This painting
was done in the morning using Crescent #100 cold press surface
illustration board. Most of the piece was painted directly onto
the dry board without
wetting the surface first. Monte painted with his usual panache
as we all tried to keep up.
Uniting the painting through texture and softness was later accomplished
by
scrubbing, scraping and spraying the surface with water. |
