It worries me
when I hear of schools eliminating art or reducing it to a bare
minimum.
Without art and other related activities, I believe atrophy of
the right side of the brain will occur, resulting in a mass lack
of imagination, expression, appreciation (of many things) and
creative problem solving skills. Yes, I believe the inventive
spirit is inborn, yet it needs to be nurtured and developed.
Without art, and an emphasis on creative exploration, a child
develops few of these attributes. Every great society has had
great art!
What does this trend conclude about ours?
Below are some
of my favorite quotes by famous people such as Pablo Picasso,
Michelangelo, Robert Frost, Vincent Van Gogh, Helen Keller and
Albert Einstein. Without art and imagination where would they
be? More importantly, without them, where would we be?
Unfortunately,
many of these affirmations were quoted from my memory and I have
forgotten who the author was. If anyone knows the author of any
of these, please let me know. Thanks.
