October 30th ~ Fear
| What is a thinking
person to conclude when confronted with with a campaign strategy
designed to induce fear and to discredit and smear one's opponent?
Is it right to selectively edit audio tapes or air speeches where
the words are twisted, completely reversing its' message? To
me, this kind of propaganda reeks of such dishonesty and dishonor,
it should be outlawed. Lets not let these smears get in the way
of addressing the real issues that matter to Americans. Don't
let nonproductive fear tactics and offensive outright lies, pave
the way to a dark future consisting of more of the same. |
For more information
on dishonest smears making the rounds, go to:

so that we can decide our elections on the issues instead of
fear.

I'm afraid of like scared people." ~ Robert Frost
"We should not let
our fears hold us back from pursuing our hopes."
~ John F. Kennedy

October 27th ~ Simple Pleasures
| With all the crazy
stuff that's going on in this country and in the world at large,
it's easy to get caught up in the drama. Concerns over the economy,
healthcare, leadership, foreign policy and tough domestic issues
can really weigh us down. The challenge is to stay positive and
not dwell on fear. If we can stop thinking of the problems, and
focus instead on envisioning solutions and staying positive,
by the "Law of Attraction" we may just help rather
than add to the plague of negativity. Do yourself and others
a favor and try to seek joy by savoring the simple pleasures
of life everyday! |
Quotes on Simple Pleasures:
"The world might
still be in a turmoil, but at least we can be at Peace with the
world, and with ourselves." ~ Michael & Cathy - Sacred
Sound Circle
"If pleasures are
greatest in anticipation, just remember that this is also true
of
trouble." ~ Elbert Hubbard
"Enjoy the little
things, for one day you may look back and realize they were
the big things." ~ Robert Brau

October 23rd ~ Independents
| Some of you are
uncertain about voting outside your registered political party
affiliation. In any general election, you can vote for a candidate
from any party you want. If you are voting in the primary however,
some states require you to vote within your declared party. If
you are registered as an Independent or "Unaffiliated Voter",
you can still also vote in primaries, but must declare one or
the other party on Primary Day to vote in a primary. |
Some statistics on Voter
Registration :
In New Jersey, there
were almost 4.8 million people registered to vote
before the Nov. 6, 2007 general election; including 1,164,504
Democrats,
874,457 Republicans and 2,756,759 unaffiliated voters for a total
of 4,7957,720.
FYI - This number from a year ago is almost ten times the number
of combined voters
currently registered in Alaska! (There were 490,656 total Alaskan
voters as of 10/14/08.)

October 20th ~ Comprehension
| Henri Bergson said;
"The eye sees only what the mind is prepared to comprehend".
Having just finished three weekends of art festivals, the idea
of comprehension really hits home. Some people understand where
I'm coming from, and others just don't get it. Just as we were
closing up yesterday, two ladies and two young girls walked into
our booth. The deep level of their individual interpretations
and connections to my work was moving and astounding. Validation
of our journeys' direction often comes in mysterious ways. |
Some quotations on "Comprehension"
:
"Creative expression
and visual comprehension are really the handmaidens
of art. One cannot thrive without the other." ~ Ken Danby
"The eternal mystery
of the world is its comprehensibility.
The fact that it is comprehensible is a miracle." ~ Albert
Einstein

October 16th ~ Negativity
| According to "The
Law of Attraction", dwelling on the negative simply contributes
to its power. Deliberate creation studies teach us to focus on
what we want instead of what we don't want. So when I cast my
ballot in favor of what I see as a step in the right direction,
I help to create that outcome. What we think about, comes about. |
Some quotations on "Negativity"
:
"People deal too
much with the negative, with what is wrong. Why not try and see
positive things, to just touch those things and make them bloom?
" ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
"Fear is that little
darkroom where negatives are developed." ~ Michael Pritchard

October 13th ~ Murphy's Law
| Considering the
economy, we had a very good show this past weekend. I'm always
amazed at how things evolve at these shows and I'm often reminded
of Murphy's Law. This popular adage states that "whatever
can go wrong, will go wrong". With about 100 original paintings
on display, usually a few get the majority of the attention.
Often they are ones that have been shown previously and have
received little or no interest at all. Three different previously
inviable paintings were extremely popular on Saturday. Once sold,
other perspective buyers returned to purchase them. There's no
logical explanation, its just that old Murphy's Law I guess! |
Some of my thoughts about
"Murphy's Law" :
"If I don't have
a particular subject, everyone is looking for it." ~ Sandy
Sandy
"If I paint a bunch
of something (like florals) that everyone's been asking about,
nobody's interested." ~ Sandy Sandy
"Once a painting
is sold, everyone comes back wanting it." ~ Sandy Sandy

October 9th ~ Style
An artist's style
is what sets them apart from the crowd and attracts recognition.
Doing groups of paintings hastens an artist's development of
a distinct look. Artist and mentor, Robert
Genn, gives these tips for artists on cultivating style:
~ Indulge and develop your own painterly eccentricities.
~ Note your happenstance aberrations and go there again.
~ Adopt fresher, perhaps speedier, ways of doing things.
~ Free up from reference material early in a work's progress.
~ Invent from the imagination. Ask "What could be?"
~ Work in series so paintings come out of themselves.
~ Cruise your work-in-progress for new motifs or designs.
~ Name and claim your particular methods and touches.
~ Build confidence by giving full employment to your inner guide.

Some quotes on "Style"
:
"Making a set or
series of any subject or idea is the way to further invent and
codify style."
~ Robert Genn
"Your style is the
way you talk in paint." ~ Robert Henri
"I think ones' style
of painting is as unique as that individual, much like their
handwriting,
it is a visual translation." ~ Loreena Lee
"Style is an easy
way of saying complicated things." ~ Jean Cocteau

October 6th ~ Appreciation
On Saturday I received
a nice surprise in my inbox. Phyllis Anderson from the UK writes;
"I began drawing and painting recently, discovered you on
squidoo.com and linked to your home page. Thanks! ! I am convinced
people these days don't say this enough, and don't demonstrate
how appreciative they are of others." I couldn't agree more!
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you people
out there who write in and give me encouragement. Today I'd especially
like to also express my deep gratitude to those of you who actually
come out to my shows, buy my work and support me in my creative
efforts!

Some thoughts on "appreciation"
:
"There is no effect
more disproportionate to its cause than the happiness bestowed
by a small compliment." ~ Robert Brault
"Creativity is so
delicate a flower that praise tends to make it bloom, while
discouragement often nips it in the bud. Any of us will put out
more and
better ideas if our efforts are appreciated." ~ Alexander
Osborn
"Appreciation is
a wonderful thing; It makes what is excellent in others
belong to us as well." ~ Voltaire

October 2nd ~ Evolution
| I took this photo
yesterday. I haven't seen any hummingbirds since Sunday, but
we've had lots of butterflies come through here. They got me thinking
about the symbolism of butterfly and that it represents evolution
into something higher. In my book, I write; "Every new idea
and every step toward self-fulfillment reflect the development
of the butterfly. The four steps of transformation, symbolized
by the egg (idea), larvae (research), cocoon (development) and
adult butterfly (new reality) are continuously taking place in
our lives." This change is a natural one and extremely necessary
for our continued growth. |
Some thoughts about "evolution"
:
"If we are going
to teach creation science as an alternative to evolution,
then we should also teach the stork theory as an alternative
to
biological reproduction." ~ Judith Hayes
"You ever noticed
how people who believe in Creationism look really
unevolved? You ever noticed that? Eyes real close together,
eyebrow ridges, big furry hands and feet. "I believe God
created me in
one day" Yeah, looks like He rushed it." ~ Bill Hicks
"Today, the theory
of evolution is an accepted fact for everyone but a
fundamentalist minority, whose objections are based not on reasoning
but on doctrinaire adherence to religious principles" ~
James D. Watson
