July 31st ~ Nature
| I've
been back home since early Tuesday morning. I still feel in some
kind of a time warp between the mountains and the coast however.
My body is back to sea level but my head is still in the clouds. |

Quotes on
Nature:
"The
artist and the photographer seek the mysteries and
the adventure of experience in nature." ~ Ansel Adams
"Art
will never be able to exist without nature." ~ Pierre Bonnard
"Nature's
own masterpieces will never go away. If I am able to
cast just a few of them in favorable light, and convince you,
the viewer, to look at them again with greater appreciation and
perhaps a fresh perspective, then I have succeeded as an artist."
~ Scott L. Christensen

July 28h ~ More on Adventure
|
I'm sitting here
in the Denver airport laptopping you from a bar. I've still got
an hour and a half until my flight leaves. Hopefully it will
be a perfect ending to a perfect trip. I've got lots of photos
- over 400 - to inspire me. Here's one taken by my friend, Sally.
Check out the beautiful
photos of her last trip to Greece.
I hope she posts
some of the great shots she got while we were out this week!

July 24th ~ Communication
|
This morning
I'll be going into the town of Crested Butte, CO to visit the
Rijks
Gallery.
I'll be giving a talk on Hummingbirds in the morning and doing
a Drawing Demo there in the afternoon. I hope to share with others
what I know. Ideally, I'll make connections, exchange thoughts
and communicate feelings.
Check out my
sketching everyday and web log for updates about my
trip!

July 20th ~ Colorado Adventure
| Tomorrow
I will be in Colorado! It is an exciting adventure for me to
get back out to the Rockies in Summertime. I can hardly wait
to connect to the grand spirit of the mountains and soak up nature's
beauty like a sponge. |

limited to four students on September 20th - 21st. Check my main

July 14th, 2008 ~ More Accomplishment
/ Workshop
|
The past four
workshop days whizzed by and took my energy with them. Drained
but enthused, my head is swimming with ideas for the next one,
scheduled for mid September. I'm limiting this seminar to four
students so I will be able to give plenty of personal attention.
I think it is already filled. The students enthusiasm has enhanced
my desire to teach them.

July 10th, 2008 ~ Accomplishment
/ Watercolor Workshop
|
Robert H. Schuller
said; "Today's accomplishments were yesterday's impossibilities."
Instead of the new Sunflower painting I was going to post today,
I thought I'd show you a photo of two of today's workshop participants.
Neither Lee or Joyce had worked in wet-in-wet watercolor before
and Joyce had never even drawn, let alone paint, prior to today!
What do you think about their work? Hard to tell theirs from
mine, isn't it?! I'm impressed. They left here very happy campers!

Quotes On
Accomplishment:

at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end. It's not
a day
when you lounge around doing nothing; it's when you've had everything
to do, and you've done it." ~ Margaret Thatcher
"The
supreme accomplishment is to blur the line between work and play."

July 7th, 2008 ~ Influence
| As
I prepare for my workshop this week, I've been thinking a lot
about all the art instructors that have helped and influenced
me. I firmly believe that when the student is ready, the teacher
will appear. Knowing and studying with Monte
Guynes
had one of the greatest effects on my art and career. Since he
has passed, I am so grateful that I had the courage and determination
to travel out to California and take his workshop. You never
know if an opportunity will present itself a second time. |
Quotes On
Influence:
"The
influences may be subliminal and subtle but all that surrounds
us
in some way changes how we see things and who we are." ~
Martine Gourbault
"Example
is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing."
~ Albert Schweitzer
"The
life I touch for good or ill will touch another life, and that
in turn another,
until who knows where the trembling stops or in what far place
my touch
will be felt." ~ Frederick Buechner

Quotes
On Education:
"A
man's mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently
cultivated or
allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it
must, and will bring forth.
If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless
weed-seeds
will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind."
~ James Allen
"If
you think education is expensive, try ignorance." ~ Derek
C. Bok
"There
is nothing harder to learn than painting and nothing which most
people take less trouble about learning." ~ G. K. Chesterton

artist who is self-taught is taught by a very ignorant person
indeed." ~ John Constable

as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live
